Watch: Jlin and Holly Herndon share new AI-generated song

06 Dec 2018

The American electronic experimentalists create new music using a ‘nascent artificial intelligence’.

The creative relationship between Rewire 2019 artist Jlin and Rewire alumnus Holly Herndon runs deep. Herndon collaborated with Jlin on the latter’s debutDark Energy back in 2015, and then again when Jlin was working on her critically-acclaimed follow-upBlack Origami. It was only a matter of time then, before Herndon herself would enlist the talents of Jlin for one of her projects, albeit processed through a ‘nascent artificial intelligence’. Their new collaboration ‘Godmother’ was created using ‘Spawn’, an AI developed by Herndon and Mat Dryhurst that absorbed the works of Jlin and tried to reimagine/replicate them in Jlin’s artistic voice.

Watch the video for ‘Godmother’ below and catch Jlin live at Rewire 2019 in another remarkable collaboration: Autobiography Edits, a dance performance by Company Wayne McGregor with a live score by Jlin. Learn more about the performance atJlin & Company Wayne McGregor.
