Lafawndah's debut album 'Ancestor Boy' is out today

22 Mar 2019

Listen to the Egyptian-Iranian singer and performer’s debut, full-length album, out via her own Concordia Imprint today.

Three years ago, the then Paris-based Lafawndah burst onto the scene with an incredible EP for Warp. Featuring her powerful vocals over the top of productions by the likes of L-Vis 1990 and ADR, it served up a powerful, forward-facing take on experimental pop. Having spent the years since honing her vocal craft and developing her own production repertoire, the Egyptian-Iranian artist now returns with her debut, full-length album via her own label, Concordia. Extending her genre-bending sound into new musical realms, ‘Ancestor Boy’ boldly weaves a wealth of musical influences – from Nina Simone to traditional Middle Eastern singers and dancehall queens to modernist bass and grime – into amaximalist experiment in pop musicthat is neither imperial nor local, but a freedom of movement.

Listen to ‘Ancestor Boy’ below and catch Lafawndah live in concert at Rewire 2019 on Friday, 29 March. Learn more atLafawndah.
