Gazelle Twin tops The Quietus' Albums of the Year

04 Dec 2018

Gazelle Twin’s Pastoral, thestaggering and deeply disquietingsoundtrack to the state of Middle England, has been named Album of the Year by The Quietus.

The last time we encountered Gazelle Twin, British performance artist, composer and producer Elizabeth Bernholz had just releasedKingdom Come, an audiovisual adaptation of J.G. Ballard’s eponymous novel that blurred the lines between consumerism, racial intolerance and the lurking economics of fascism. That was pre-Brexit. A prescient precursor to what was about to unfold. Two years on, much of which she spent raising her child amidst the rural comforts of Middle England, Bernholz has reincarnated Gazelle Twin into a staggering and deeply disquieting reflection of our deranged and absurd times. Released in October,Pastoral has already drawn widespread acclaim and now, fittingly, has been namedthe Album of the Year by The Quietus.

Joining Gazelle Twin in the Top 10 are fellow Rewire 2019 artists, Low with their new album,Double Negative. Further down the list are a host of Rewire performers new and old, including Lotic, Yves Tumor, Jenny Hval, Deena Abdelwahed, Ben Vince, Gaika, and Rewire 2018 standouts, Maryam Saleh, Maurice Louca and Tamer Abu Ghazaleh.
