Earlier this month, Ziúr released the single Malikan, ahead of their upcoming album Eyeroll, which will be out on July 28 via the Kampala-based label Hakuna Kulala. The album promises to be a spine-tingling impulse that should wake the listener from its creative slumber and prompt external connection and reflection. Watch the video for Malikan, featuring footage from Rewire 2022, below.
Perfectly embodying the boundless creativity of a new generation of iconoclastic producers, musicians and performers, Ziúr has become one of the most exciting producers to come out of the fringes of Berlin club music. On the track Malikan, Ziúr is accompanied by Abdullah Miniawy, whose unpredictable and spellbinding vocals lead the track to an unsettling climax. The result is an exhilarating and intoxicating performance with cathartic music, hypnotic visuals, and ecstatic dancing.
Apart from Abdullah Miniawy, Ziur joined forces with a number of collaborators on the 11-track album, which each provided distinct voices that herald a bewildering sonic epoch: Elvin Brandhi, Iceboy Violet, Juliana Huxtable, Ledef, and James Ginzburg.
The video for Malikan, like the previously released video of Eyeroll, was shot by the Dutch video artist Sander Houtkruijer, who also took care of the visuals for Ziúr's immersive live show they performed together with dancer and choreographer Kiani del Valle during Rewire 2022.
