Watch the Rewire 2021 documentary

30 Dec 2021

With 2021 drawing to a close, we’d like to take some time to reflect on what has been a challenging, yet inspiring year for Rewire and the entire ecosystem of music. Our 2021 festival documentary encapsulates this transformative journey. Watch it in full below.

Breaking with our traditional format for the first time, Rewire presented a fully online programme on 6 – 9 May 2021. Over four days, Rewire presented a multitude of projects and formats that demonstrated the varied ways artists have been creating and performing works under physical restrictions. The festival brought together artists and audiences to create and share unique audiovisual and interactive experiences, alongside a discursive programme of talks, workshops and meditations that aimed to critically address our festival theme of (Re)setting.

Then, returning to The Hague in September, Rewire provided a taste of it’s regular festival, with a programme that offered a snapshot of the full Rewire experience. Over the weekend of 10-12 September, Rewire teamed up with artist-run platform iii to present Proximity Music — a tour of installations scattered across The Hague that engaged with the senses and the body, with instruments and machines, with ritual and play. In addition, several other interventions and installations were dotted around the city for visitors to explore. Then, on Saturday, the 18th of September, Rewire collaborated with festival Dag in de Branding to present the closing event to the offline edition.
