Watch: Moor Mother explores sound as resistance

01 Mar 2018

The Philadelphia-born musician, poet and activist takes you on a trip through her hometown in this new mini-doc from Moog.

Performing as Moor Mother, Philadelphia-born musician, poet and activist Camae Ayewa has become a powerful voice in the realms of experimental music over the past few year. Wielding harsh, cathartic noise and freely improvised textures of cosmic jazz, her music takes the form of sonic protest andaddresses the systemic racism endured by African American communities throughout the United States. In this powerful new mini-doc, Moog and Moor Mother take you on a trip through her Philadelphia home, revealing how she channels Alice Coltrane, Billie Holiday and others into her own sonic resistance.

Watch Moor Mother’s Sonic Origins below and catch her live with her new band, Irreversible Entanglements, at Rewire 2018 on Saturday, 7 April.
