Watch: Lyckle de Jong performs 'Bij Annie op bezoek' at Kunstmuseum Den Haag

07 Jan 2022

Acquaint yourself with the nostalgic and colourful story of ‘Bij Annie op bezoek’, a faded, lo-fi concept album interpreted live by the Hague-based composer and multi-instrumentalist Lyckle de Jong.

Lyckle de Jong was studying at the Amsterdam Conservatory of Music when he started to accumulate cheap vintage keyboards and drum machines. He'd studied the piano since he was a child, but found himself inspired by the unique sound of instruments like the Roland E30 and the ARP Odyssey. De Jong channeled this passion into his debut ‘Bij Annie op bezoek’, a concept album spun around the story of Annie, a lonely 80-something woman who recounted memories of her life in the 1960s.

As part of the Rewire 2021 - online edition, de Jong performed an exclusive interpretation of the album, bringing Annie’s stories to life at the Kunstmuseum in Den Haag, alongside regular collaborator and close friend of Annie, Gijsje Heemskerk, and clarinet player Kim David Bots.
