Dive into the playful, theatrical storytelling of Genevieve Murphy, is this specially adapted concert performance of her theatre piece ‘I Don’t Want To Be An Individual On My Own’.
Murphy, who lives in Amsterdam, channels her fascination with psychology and disability into performance and visual art that intersect with her training as a contemporary classical composer and performer. For this performance at the Rewire 2021 - online edition, Rewire commissioned her to adapt the theatre version to a concert setting. Recalling a very ordinary birthday party from her childhood, Murphy explores the idea of empathy using dance music, electronic pop songs and free improvisation.
This piece was originally performed as a solo show, and was fleshed out for Rewire 2021 with help from a troupe of local musicians: Andy Moor, Marta Warelis, John Dikeman and Henning Luther. This performance, recorded at … comes as part of our series of archival recordings from previous Rewire editions.
