Mysterious Tunisian producer AMMAR 808 announces debut album for Glitterbeat Records.
AMMAR 808 is the alias of Tunisian-born electronic producer Sofyann Ben Youssef. Armed with his trusty Roland TR-808, Ben Youssef reworks the sounds of traditional North African arrangements such as raï and chaabi into an electrifying force of dense beats, twangy keys and compressed darbukas. Slated for release on Glitterbeat Records in June, his new album ‘AMMAR 808 & The Maghreb United’, sees Ben Youssef accompanied by three ofpowerful vocalists from the heart of the Maghreb, embodying a new-found vigour and enthusiasm for the North African music scene.
