Second Nicolás Jaar & Group concert and new artists added to Rewire 2019

18 Mar 2019

As we gear up for next week’s Rewire 2019, we have a few important updates for the festival programme. We have just added a second Nicolás Jaar & Group performance, three new artists and talks by Adam Harper and Angel Bat Dawid, and updated the Rewire 2019 timetable.

Nicolás Jaar & Group at the Grote Kerk

The Sunday of Rewire 2019 sees Nicolás Jaar take the stage with a six-piece ensemble for the world premiere of a new work for piano, electronics, percussion, saxophone, and duduk. Entitled Nicolás Jaar & Group, we now have added a second concert to ensure that everyone has the chance to see this new ensemble performance. Nicolás Jaar & Group will perform at 21:15 and again at 22:30 on Sunday, 30 March. Both concerts can be attended with a Rewire 2019 Festival Pass or Full Sunday Pass. Both can be purchased atTickets.

Maria W Horn, Obol Le,and Free Fall Improvisers Orchestra

Swedish composer Maria W Hornis the first of three new artists joining the Rewire 2019 music programme. Fascinated by the manipulation of time and space through sonic extremes, she will unveil her haunting soundscapes of minimalist structures and piercing power electronics at Het Magazijn on Saturday, while Amsterdam-based band Obol Le translates the Andean traditions and ceremonies of their Bolivian-born singer into an audiovisual dream of pop, electronics, folk, drone and algorithmic projection at Koorenhuis. On Friday, the fifteen musicians of the Studio Loos conceived Free Fall Improvisers Orchestra combine free improvisation, indeterminacy, chance music and free jazz with the concepts and works of renowned masters like Anthony Braxton and Barry Guy.

New talks added to the discourse programme

British musicologist and music critic Adam Harper joins the Staging Sound thematic programme at Korzo on Sunday, 30 March. Presented in partnership with The Wire, his talk will examine the history of performed music to date and what it means to experience liveness. The preceding day, we sit down with spiritual jazz soothsayer Angel Bat Dawid for an in-depth exploration of all that has inspired and influenced her along her path of music and spirituality. This conversation replaces the Jesse Kanda presentation that was initially scheduled for the same time but will unfortunately no longer take place.

Timetable updated

Please note: we have made a few adjustments in the timetable to accommodate these additions. Be sure to check the updated Rewire 2019 timetable to see when each concert takes place. A downloadable version of the timetable will be released in the coming days.
