UPDATE: Unfortunately, due to unforeseen personal circumstances Shackleton will not be joining us for the next edition of Rewire x Korzo. However, we are immensely thankful that the excellent Rabih Beaini will join us to play alongside Waclaw Zimpel in a rare collaborative performance. Find out more information here.
After a moving kick off event at Korzo last month with Mary Lattimore, Liz Harris (Grouper) and Roy Montgomery, on Friday 1 November we’re returning to our favourite theatre in the Hague for the second Rewire x Korzo of the season. Polish multi-instrumentalist Wacław Zimpel and British electronic producer Shackleton will present their brand new live show alongside performances from Rotterdam acts Red Brut and Animistic Beliefs.Tickets are now available via rewirefestival.nl/tickets.
Composer and classically-trained clarinetist Wacław Zimpel and British electronic music producer Shackleton both create hypnotic music that stems from a shared interest in American minimalism. Their special collaboration as Zimpel / Shackleton combines haunted atmospheres and ecstatic melodies in an unmissable live show coming to the Netherlands for the very first time at Rewire x Korzo.
Wacław Zimpel made his Rewire festival debut in 2017. Combing a steeped background in free jazz with rich minimalist composition, Zimpel had the Lutherse Kerk transfixed with his one-man-ensemble show and sublime soundscapes. Like Zimpel, Shackleton makes entrancing music that translates into immersive experiences on the dancefloor. For the last 15 years he has honed a bewitching style of club music that’s been mounting on his labels, the legendary Skull Disco and his current Woe To The Septic Heart! imprint. Lately, Shackleton has expanded his avant garde-skewed repertoire working in collaboration with cult Italian singer-actor Ernesto Tomasini, evocative vocalist Anika and spoken word artist Vengeance Tenfold.
Curious as to what to expect? Listen to Wacław Zimpel’s sublime solo album ‘LINES’:
Followed by “Furnace of Guts” from Shackleton’s latest EP:
Emerging Rotterdam artists Red Brut AKA Marijn Verbiesen and modular synth duo Animistic Beliefs complete the lineup.
