The Jon Gibson Group (US)
Andrea Belfi (IT)
One Man Nation (SG)
The Rewire x Korzo concert series will catch up after the summer, starting with three electro-acoustic performances that are paving the way into new horizons.
The Jon Gibson Group performs Visitations
Jon Gibson (b.1940) is an American minimalist composer and musician based in New York City. As a founding member, Gibson has been performing in the Philip Glass Ensemble for the past 45 years. His composition Visitations is a minimalist masterpiece. Gibson’s first release under his own name, Visitations is a departure from the structured repetition of his minimalist peers and takes the listener on an aural journey – spanning organic field recordings, ambient flutes, percussion, synthesizers, and free-flowing textures. With his new ensemble, Gibson re-imagines the piece with modular synthesizers, quadrophonic sound, and a film entitled “One Way” depicting the California desert. In the film, which Gibson shot in the early 1970’s, the seemingly never ending desert landscape of America perfectly reflects the expanse of Visitations and takes the audience alongside a ritualistic road trip unlike any other.
Andrea Belfi is a drummer, composer and experimental musician. Artfully blending the acoustic with the electronic, his performances are equal parts energetic and hypnotic, featuring long-arching soundscapes that are rich and immersive. A live performer at heart, Belfi’s music comes to life on stage where he’s built a reputation for electrifying drum solos and off the cuff improvisations. Earlier this year, Andrea Belfi released his new studio album Ore. Belfi is also known for his performances with Nils Frahm’s Nonkeen project.
Tara Transitory aka One Man Nation embraces performance as an explicit expression against the prefabrication of culture: “I do not make music per se, I create experiences, I try bring people on a trip out of our reality through performance and the use of sounds.”
Sunday November 12th (14:30 – 19.15)
Laraaji & Carlos Niño (US)
Rabih Beaini & Tarawangsawelas (LB / ID)
Liu Fang (CN)
Otto Sidharta (ID)
This last Rewire x Korzo edition of 2017 will present a stimulating, distinctive scope of transcendental music from around the globe.
New York based ambient pioneer Laraaji (All Saints / Warp) and LA renaissance man Carlos Niño (Leaving Records / Stones Throw) will combine to breath new life into each other’s songs, instrumentals and improvisations via vocals, sensory percussion, zither and fx. Laraaji is a musician, mystic and laughter meditation practitioner, and was once discovered by Brian Eno himself. Carlos Niño is the exalted producer, composer, percussionist, dj, ensemble orchestrator and mentor who has traversed the multitude of music scenes the city has birthed within the last two decades.
Lebanese-born producer and dj Rabih Beaini (also known as Morphosis) specializes in grainy, imaginative analogue electronic music. In the past year however, his Morphine label has telescoped in on key voices in avant-garde electronic and outernational music. At Rewire x Korzo, Beaini will present his new live performance in collaboration with the Tarawangsa duo Teguh Adi Permana & Wisnu Ridwana. Tarawangsa music is a rare Sundanese tradition of pure and minimal trance music played on two string instruments. Their collaborative project will release its debut album on Morphine records this autumn.
Liu Fang is an internationally acclaimed virtuoso for both the pipa and guzheng musical instrument. Her profile has risen rapidly due to her rich and deeply transcendental performances and her extensive repertoire. De Volkskrant described her as “a great ambassador for the Chinese music”.
Otto Sidharta is an Indonesian Composer, known for his electronic music since the early seventies. Sidharta uses environmental sounds to express his musical ideas developed when he was a student at the Jakarta Institute of Arts, and later on at the Conservatorium in Amsterdam.
