HEXA with David Lynch’s ‘Factory Photographs’

Originally commissioned for the “David Lynch: Between Two Worlds’ exhibition, Xiu Xiu frontman Jamie Stewart and Australian ambient composer Lawrence English join forces as HEXA to soundtrack David Lynch’s ‘Factory Photographs’. Setting out to explore the effects of sound and music on the mind and body, the duo use field recordings, live instrumentation and a wealth of droning, experimental electronics to produce a dynamic live soundtrack that channels the post-industrial atmospheres of David Lynch’s photographs, and effectively places their audience inside the landscapes of disused factories and industrial ruins. In December, HEXA released their full-length debut, ‘Factory Photographs’, ten tracks of imposing industrial soundscapes that resonate heavily with David Lynch’s own, seminal soundtrack to ‘Eraserhead’.

Lawrence English

Hailed as one of ambient music’s modern masters, Lawrence English is a Brisbane-based composer, media artist and founder of leading avant-garde label Room40. Exploring notions of perception, memory and sonic affect across a wide array of creative forms, Lawrence English uses a broad palette of live instrumentation, field recordings and electronics to craft provocative listening experiences that are reminiscent of the heavier sides of Tim Hecker and Ben Frost. At Rewire x Korzo #5, Lawrence performs excerpts from his forthcoming album, “Cruel Optimism”, to be released by Room40 on 17 February.

Zeno van den Broek

Originally trained as an architect, Zeno van den Broek is a Dutch-born, Copenhagen-based composer and visual artist whose works explore the relation between musical forms, architectural structures and spatial awareness. Employing pure sound sources such as sine waves and white noise, and minimal visual aesthetics such as grids and lines, Zeno van den Broek develops site-specific patterns of interference that synthesize space, projections and sound into textural masterpieces. At Rewire x Korzo #5, Zeno van den Broek presents his new audiovisual work ‘Shift Symm’.
