Rewire presents 10 Years of Hyperdub

24 Sep 2014

London’s glorious electronica label Hyperdub celebrates its tenth anniversary with a special showcase evening at Rewire. On Saturday, 8 November Cooly G, copeland and founder and label boss Steve Goodman (aka Kode9) play in Paard van Troje. Rewire presents a broad and innovative programme with a focus on electronic music, neoclassical, new jazz, pop and experimental sound art; often promoting new work and collaborations.

Hyperdub
Hyperdub has been a leading light in the electronic music scene for the last decade, and a label that boasts a formidable back catalogue; with releases from Kode9, King Midas Sound and greats like Burial. Steve Goodman, better known by his producer’s title Kode9, is the founder and owner of Hyperdub. Hyperdub artists Hype Williams (2011) and Laurel Halo (2012) played at Rewire before.

Kode9
Steve Goodman is known for being a busy man. As well as being the boss of Hyperdub and releasing and DJing under the moniker Kode9, he has also published academically with ‘Sonic Warfare: Sound, Affect and the Ecology of Fear’, (MIT Press). Kode9 and long term collaborator The Spaceape will release a new EP, ‘The Killing Season’, on October 28, 2014. The opening track, ‘Chasing The Beast’ was released earlier this year on the Hyperdub 10.1 compilation, as part of the label’s ongoing tenth anniversary celebration.

copeland
Once part of the challenging Hype Williams project alongside Dean Blunt, Inga Copeland has mapped out her own creative path; garnering a fair amount of positive press following her self-released debut solo LP, ‘Because I’m Worth It’, in May 2014. Fact magazine commented that this intriguing record presented “her most fully realized work to date”.

Cooly G
Cooly G is widely known as a formidable house DJ, producer and singer. Cooly G will release her second LP, ‘Wait ‘Til Night’ (playfully described by the label as “Lo Fi Bedroom music”) on October 21, 2014. The newrelease is an eagerly awaited follow up to her much lauded debut, 2012’s ‘Playin’ Me.’ A video for the new record’s title track and first single was recently released by Hyperdub, and can be seen here.
