On Friday, 2 March, [P]Rewire x Korzo welcomes two familiar faces in Berlin-based electronic musician and French multi-instrumentalist Colleen to warm up to next year’s festival. Both Rewire festival alumni – Laurel Halo starred at our 2012 edition and Colleen at the 2016 edition – each artist molds a wealth of musical genre into their own distinctive sound and will present a live performance of their critically-acclaimed, new albums. More artists to be announced soon.
Tickets to [P]Rewire x Korzo are available from Saturday, 16 December at 10am CET viaTickets.
A mainstay of Kode9’s Hyperdub label, Laurel Halo has always defied classification. Since debuting with the vocal-driven, artful synth-pop of ‘Quarantine’ in 2012, the Michigan-born, Berlin-based electronic musician has dabbled extensively in ambient, dub and techno experimentation. Laurel Halo returns to The Hague armed with her latest Hyperdub release, ‘Dust’. Marking yet another dramatic shift in sound, ‘Dust’ sees Laurel Halo link up with the likes of Julia Holter, Klein and Eli Keszler to reimagine jazz song-craft for the 21st century. Drawing on techno, jazz, funk and soul, ‘Dust’ is a synthesis of all that came before it, yet sounds like nothing we’ve heard before.
Like Laurel Halo, French multi-instrumentalist Céline Schott has recently undergone a radical shift in her musical trajectory. Over the course of six full-length albums, all released under her moniker Colleen, she’s become renowned for her use of looping and dub effects on traditional instruments like the viola da gamba. Ditching the traditional in favor of her Moog delay and two piano synths for her seventh, ‘A flame my love, a frequency’, released via Thrill Jockey in October, is an intricate and deeply personal exploration of life and death to a meditative backdrop of delicate vocals and melodic lo-fi soundscapes.
