For the second time, Rewire is hosting Rewire Transmissions, a radio making workshop led by Ceola Tunstall-Behrens (artist, educator and radio maker based in Rotterdam), that invites participants to create live radio during the festival.
Participants will have the opportunity to learn about radio making by making radio. Drawing on Rewire’s music, context and film programme, participants are invited to delve into the festival. To observe, listen and to collect material that they will share with listeners through broadcasted radio shows. During the workshop we will create a 1 hour radio broadcast on Saturday 11 April and a 2 hour radio broadcast on Sunday 12 April.
Participants will discuss and experiment with radio making styles and will receive close support in developing their own radio segments which will be part of two collective broadcasts. Whether it be an interview, a mixtape, a documentary, a soundscape or other, participants will have the chance to explore and test their ideas in various formats. Together we will be exploring what radio making, in the context of a music festival, can be - we will be learning by doing.
Participants new to radio making are welcome! Participants who come with experience but are keen to experiment with new ways of radio making are also welcome. Participants will also have the opportunity to meet with other radio communities who will also be attending Rewire.
The workshop is being hosted in collaboration with Radio WORM - the Rotterdam based community radio station - who will be broadcasting live from the festival from Thursday through to Sunday. Ash Kilmartin, Programmer at Radio WORM, will also be joining us during the workshop. The location of the workshop is The Grey Space in the Middle, Den Haag. Listen to the broadcasts from Rewire last year.
Please fill out this application form by Monday 16 February. 12 participants (max) will be selected and will be notified by Wednesday 25 February. The participation fee for the workshop is €45,-. Participants will also need to hold their own, 3-Day (or 4-Day) Festival Pass.
In parallel to Rewire Transmissions, Rewire organizes a music magazine workshop called ‘Rewire Reflections’. The open call for this workshop will be published on 4 February.
