Open call for sound & radio works

18 Mar 2021

This year Rewire will break with it’s traditional format and present a fully online edition on 6 – 9 May 2021. As part of this programme we are looking for pre-existing sound and transmission artworks to be broadcast on our radio stream during the festival. Deadline for submissions is 19 March.

May 2021 sees Rewire adapt into an experimental online format. As part of this we are seeking soundscapes, spoken word pieces, radio experiments, found sound, innovative approaches to drama and documentary, and radical and challenging new programme ideas. The selected submissions will be broadcast on our radio stream over the duration of the festival weekend.

The call is open to artists, musicians and producers at any career stage. It is intended primarily for existing works that are not already catered by our festival or general programme, therefore we are unable to consider DJ mixes, music shows or other conventional genres. Please note that there is only a token fee available for selected works.

There are two categories for submissions;

  1. Pre-recorded radio programmes including documentaries, radio plays, soundscapes and crafted features of 30 / 60 / 90 / 120 minutes duration.
  2. Shorter radio or sound works that will be compiled into longer shows.

All radio works should be submitted as completed pieces. Not all submissions will be accepted. Priority will be given to works that are created especially for the medium of radio, that demonstrate originality, a spirit of experimentation and that play to the medium’s unique attributes as a means of disseminating ideas. Submissions that respond to or fit with the festival theme of '(re)setting' are particularly welcome.

Audio submissions should either be uploaded to Dropbox (accounts are free) or sent via a free online file sending service such as Wetransfer. Downloadable links to Soundcloud files are also acceptable. Please do not send audio files as email attachments. The preferred audio format for submissions is high quality MP3s (256kbps or higher). Please send links to

With your submission, please include the title and a short synopsis of the work (100 words max), a brief biography (100 words max), web links and your name and contact details. Texts any longer than this will not fit our listings.
