Matmos

Matmos is the duo of American experimentalists M.C. Schmidt and Drew Daniels. First coming together in San Francisco in 1995, the pair are best known for their use of strange and unusual sound sources – anything from washing machines, cameras and VCRs to human skulls, liposuction surgery and latex fetish clothing – channeling these extraordinary elements into bewildering, sample-based compositions that marry the textures of musique concrète with the rhythms of electronic pop music. Never ones to sit still and forever inventing new techniques, Matmos’s latest album Plastic Anniversary, their 25th as a duo, sees the duo harness yet another single sound source: plastic. At once quirky, playful and deeply sinister, Plastic Anniversary transforms the seemingly mundane into a powerful statement about our relationship with plastic and the planetary price that has yet to be paid.

Caterina Barbieri

Italian composer Caterina Barbieri sits at the forefront of a new generation of modular synthesiser artists. Pushing the iconic electronic instrument into pioneering realms, her spellbinding compositions are minimalist in focus and often explore themes related to machine intelligence and human perception. Following two acclaimed releases for Important Records, Barbieri heads to Rewire x Korzo in support of her forthcoming Editions Mego record, ‘Ecstatic Computation’. The new album delves into memory processes, using complex sequencing techniques and intricate pattern-based operations to induce an ecstatic state of trance and wonder and distort our perception of time.
