This spring marks the anticipated release of Jlin's latest album, Akoma, featuring collaborations with esteemed figures in the realm of experimental music. The album, set to be released on March 22, lists a cast of remarkable collaborators including Björk, Philip Glass, and the Kronos Quartet.
While Jlin had previously remixed Björk, the opening track “Borealis” marks their first official collaboration. The Gary, Indiana born-artist’s distinctive music transcends genres, scenes, and generations alike. Ahead of her new release, Jlin’s mini-album Perspective (2023) was a percussive wonderland of vivid footwork that has become overgrown with symbiotic rhythms and invasive synthesis. Somehow maximalist and minimalist at the same time, the music moves, expands, and contracts as if it’s truly alive. With Akoma she introduces a fresh gateway into her unique world of sounds to both her already consolidated listeners and to the ones who have just been intrigued by it.
