With the magic of Rewire 2018 still fresh on our minds, we’re delighted to reveal that Jenny Hval and Ariel Kalma have been confirmed for Rewire x Korzo on 25 May.
On Friday, 25 May, we extend our celebration of forward-thinking music with the second Rewire x Korzo night of the year. Having previously hosted the likes of Tim Hecker, Laurel Halo and Koreless, we now welcome Norwegian artist, singer, composer and writer Jenny Hval and French new-age composer and electronic music pioneer Ariel Kalma for a pair of exclusive live performances. Jenny Hval is one of those rare artists who excels in whichever medium she embraces. Multidisciplinary and transgressive, her polyphonic artistry is seamlessly interwoven between musical, literary, visual and performative modes of expression. Over the course of six solo albums – the last of which, Blood Bitch, was praised as one of the best releases of 2016 by the likes of Pitchfork, The Wire and The Quietus – the Norwegian avant-gardist has refined her conceptual explorations of gender politics, sexuality and violence to the tune of her own intimate and distinctive sound. Slated for release on 25 May, her latest work, ‘The Long Sleep’, sees Jenny Hval unveil an instinctive, almost subconscious approach to melody and structure, culminating in an inviting and infectious jazz-pop.

Ariel Kalma’s first recordings may date back more than forty years, but it wasn’t until RVNG Intl.’s 2014 compilation, ‘An Evolutionary Music’, that they drew their rightful acclaim. A globe-trotting musician who mixes traditional sounds with modern arrangements, the French-born composer has weaved his way through free jazz, progressive rock and drone, tape-loop minimalism, electroacoustic composition and new age meditations. At Rewire x Korzo, Ariel Kalma makes a rare live appearance, connecting the deeply ambient rhythms and dynamic grooves of his newly released ‘Osmose III’ to its ancestor and 1978 cult classic, ‘Osmose’.
