Rabih Beaini releases new Tarawangsawelas record

Rewire x Korzo

Upcoming Rewire x Korzo artists Tarawangsawelas unveil their new album for Rabih Beaini’s Morphine Records. Stream ‘Wanci’ in full now, and catch them livealongside Rabih Beaini on 12 November at Korzo, The Hague.

Tarawangsawelas is Teguh Adi Permana and Wisnu Ridwana, an Indonesian duo who perform contemporary forms of a rare, traditional Western Java music called Tarawangsa. Recorded in their hometown of Bandung by Morphine Records boss Rabih Beaini (a.k.a. Morphosis), Wanci sees the duo develop new structures and pieces of Tarawangsa together with Tarawangsa maestros Pak Pupung Suprena and Pak Jaja to create a careful modern interpretation of the sacred Sundanese sound. Employing the two traditional string instruments, a two-stringed bowed instrument called the Tarawangsa and a seven-stringed instrument called the Jentreng, Tarawangsawelas craft slow cosmic grooves that gradually build to more repetitive, hypnotic rhythms and leave you in a trance-like state.

Joined on stage by Rabih Beaini, Tarawangsawelas will perform their new live collaboration at Rewire x Korzo #8 on 12 November. Listen to album opener ‘Selalu’ below, and stream snippets of the record over at Rush Hour.
