Introducing: 33EMYBW

Enter the world of SVBKVLT

Active in the Chinese experimental scene for over a decade, producer and visual artist 33EMYBW constructs post-human club abstractions with a focus firmly on the future. Her 2019 album ‘Arthropods’ saw her further develop the unique, other-worldly aesthetic established on her 2018 debut ‘Golem’, released on the excellent Shanghai-based label SVBKVLT. We’re very excited to welcome 33EMYBW for the Dutch premiere of ‘Arthropods’, in what will be one of the must-see live performances on the Saturday of Rewire 2020.

33EMYBW’s ‘Arthropods’, released in October 2019, claimed its place amongst the best albums of the year, with the likes of Resident Advisor and FACT ranking it highly in their respective end-of-year lists. A rewarding, at times exhilarating listen, frazzled experimental club sounds take on unearthly forms. Whilst the sound of the record defies genre-based conventions, she describes the sound as ‘limb dance’, using “arthropod-like beat evolution to achieve the perception of tiny creatures dancing around.” Listen to the album in full below:

As one of the breakout stars of Shanghai’s SVBKVLT label, 33EMYBW stands alongside like-minded artists Hyph11e, Zaliva-D, and Gabber Modus Operandi (who also join us at Rewire 2020). Resident Advisor featured SVBKVLT as it’s label of the month in January, delving into Shanghai’s forward-thinking experimental club scene.

As a visual artist, 33EMYBW’s aesthetic plays a hugely important role in the conceptual world of her music. Check out the surreal video for ‘Golem’ from her 2018 album:
