Ahead of the Dutch premiere of ‘Endless Power’, we asked the Berlin-based DJ and producer to put together a playlist of music that inspired their new live show and debut album.
The alias of Texas-born DJ and producer J’Kerian Morgan, Lotic has evolved into one of the most important voices in avant-garde club music since relocating to Berlin in 2012. First emerging as part of the city’s lauded Janus collective, their hybrid live/dj-sets harnessed an apocalyptic mix of gut-wrenching bass, splintered R&B, and skewed electronics. Newly-released debut album ‘Power’ – and by extension their live show ‘Endless Power’ – sees Lotic stretch their wings into unexpected new spaces, both compositionally and, for the first time, vocally, exploring the many ways in which power can be expressed and experienced.
In the run-up to the Dutch premiere of ‘Endless Power’, we asked Lotic to put together a playlist of empowering songs that influenced their new album and live show. Instead of one, they turned in two.
“Harder is for just NASTY, offensive beats. She’s for the CUNT inside of us, for that moment you’re dancing to yourself nude in the mirror. For when she’s feeling it! Softer is a bit more focused on the composer, the mathematician, the harmony-obsessed. She’s more pensive, she takes her time. She’s paying attention. She still has an edge, though! I said softER, not soft! Enjoyyyy”
