Working across experimental music, performance, and installation, YATTA is a Sierra Leonean-American artist and composer whose music takes a freeform and experimental approach to pop, electronic, and folk sounds. In 2024, they released PALM WINE, named one of The Wire's Best Albums of 2024. The album builds on the legacy of their great uncle, pioneering Sierra Leonean guitarist S. E. Rogie, and reimagines palm-wine music – a traditional West African popular music genre – by taking inspiration from the genre’s storytelling, lilting vocals, and slant towards levity, ease, and play. PALM WINE sustains an experimental spirit while delivering something entirely new, expansive, and more pop-leaning. At the festival, YATTA will perform the album with the support of their band.
