YATTA

Performing on Saturday 4 April.

Interdisciplinary artist, digipoet and musician YATTA uses loop pedal drones, channeled screams and improvised poetry to explore connections between psychosis, prayer and presence. A member of the New York collective Purple Tape Pedigree (PTP), their latest record for the label, ‘WAHALA’, navigates the theme of identity – “of being black, being trans, and being African on foreign land.” The record was released together with the theatrical production ‘An Episode: Ricky’s Room’, featuring songs, poetry and dance investigating ‘mental illness’ and psychological ‘splitting’ as an ongoing reaction to oppressive environments. With their multimedia-rich performances, YATTA has shared the stage with musicians like Cardi B, William Basinski, and The Sun Ra Arkestra.
