This workshop with sound artist KMRU offers an introduction into his field recording practice drawing extensively on his body of work on listening, recording, and composing with environmental sounds. The session explores how field recordings are transformed into expressive sonic works. Participants will gain insight into practical techniques as well as conceptual methods that shape KMRU’s field recording practice. They will also discuss selected works that prominently feature field recordings. Together, we will unpack the creative process both in the field and in the studio, examining how field recordings are shaped and articulated creatively. Rather than a technical walkthrough alone, the session invites participants into the conditions of recording and composing with environmental sounds.
Please send a short motivation of why you’re interested to join the workshop to reflections@rewirefestival.nl with “Encounters” in the subject line to obtain a ticket link. Ticket price is €14. The workshop is open to a maximum of 15 participants. Prior to the workshop, KMRU will give a talk on environmental sound at The Grey Space between 13:00 and 13:45.
The workshop is presented in collaboration with Goethe-Institut Niederlande, as part of their multi-year project on listening.
