Henk & Melle

Stalwarts of The Hague’s alternative scene for many, many years, Henk & Melle are a curioso of punky, krauty dabblings. Henk (from the group Hallo Venray) and Melle (from Smutfish) weave a tale of their strange path here: their first album, Roodnoot (2011), was written in a freezing-cold farmhouse; their second album, Piece Of The Pie (2016), was written one-Monday-at-a-time in a roadside diner; and their third album, We Are All Rockstars (2019), was written in an ice-cream parlour in The Hague. Their latest release, Bamhaus (2023), which they affectionately refer to as “The Rewire album,” is a krauty, wavy album. Supposedly recorded in a treehouse, there is a shifting gravity in the songs – partly through their sense of humour and partly through their minimal production – that does indeed suggest a feeling of being ungrounded: this is music for sitting on branches and dangling your legs.
