Shadow-walks (at home) is a series adapted for the pandemic from my long-term project Shadow-walks. Instead of walking with people on their special walks and later singing my memory of our walk, I now ask people to record a verbal descriptions of their chosen walk and my vocal improvisations respond to how I imagine it. For Geert Vermeire’s haunting tale of sleeping, dreaming and butterflies in The Alps I emphasised his walk’s dreamlike aspect through my singing and by scrambling his story into fragments that evoke rather than explain.
