Ultra-red is an international political sound art collective which has worked within and across a widely distributed network of communities organising around public housing, health, education, queer politics, anti-racism and migration. Ultra-red studies, develops, and tests procedures for collective listening that contribute directly to political struggles. Ultra-red draw on traditions of musique concrète, conceptualism, popular education, and militant inquiry in their development of protocols for organized listening. Ultra-red will host a workshop with Onzichtbaar Den Haag to demonstrate their methodology on creating a sound map of the city.
‘Collective listening is not an end in itself. Rather, it is a tool among other tools available for the long haul of struggle’ (Extract from Ultra-red, ‘Practice Session Workbook’, 2014)
