Rewire presents a world premiere performance of a new collaboration between musicians Ugnė Uma and Pavel Milyakov. Uma is a musician and radio-maker from Vilnius whose music takes influences from experimental poetry and Lithuania's underground jazz and folk music scene of the last century, which emerged from its independence movement. Pavel Milyakov is a prolific producer and musician whose music under his own name spans experimental, ambient, and noise. He also releases club-oriented music with the moniker Buttechno, and will play a b2b set under that name with Torus as part of Laak's late-night programme on Saturday. Ahead of a forthcoming release of brooding electronic ballads, the duo present a special live performance at the festival, tapping into the abstract pop energies of Uma's vocals and the abyssal textures of Milyakov's slow, smoky ambience. Together the duo meld R&B and trip hop sounds with noise-encrusted reverb and experimental electronics to develop a devilish sound which shimmers with hazy emotion.
