Speaker Music

Speaker Music is the moniker of DeForrest Brown Jr., a rhythmanalyst, writer, musician, and curator whose explorations in electronic music take a metaphilosophical approach. Through sound, his works channel the Black modernist tradition of "rhythm and soul music as an intellectual site and sound of techno-vernacular expression," as his three albums on Planet Mu attest to. As his renowned album Techxodus (2023 shows, he blends abstract electronics, high-energy electro, and deconstructed, Afrofuturist techno – summoning the submerged mythologies and sonics of Detroit icons Drexicya. He performs twice at Rewire 2026: as Speaker Music he performs a live set; he also performs as DeForrest Brown Jr., presenting 'Synoptic Audio' – a work of sonic theory fiction and live electronic performance ahead of a forthcoming album on Planet Mu.
