Returning to the festival after impressive shows with Weirdcore and Aïsha Devi (as AKA HEX), the Nairobi-born electronic producer Fredrick M Njau, aka Slikback, brings Friction to Rewire 2026 – his new live AV show featuring visuals from New York-based artist Jacob Payne Barber, aka maltdisney, and light design and live video manipulation from Tasya. This monolithic show of intense dance percussion and bright cyberpunk visuality sees Slikback improvise upon themes from his album Attrition (2025) on Planet Mu. Its sounds immersively meld cinematic and game sound design with tough dance music that draws on elements of gqom, dubstep, and hardcore techno. Friction brings the sci-fi world of Attrition into stark reality, booting its viewers into an alternate experience that unencrypts one's senses in both overwhelming and invigorating ways.
