Based in Montreal and rising from the city’s infamous illegal warehouse scene, electronic live act Pelada are bringing punk and politics to dancefloors around the world. Formed in 2014 by vocalist Chris Vargas, of Colombia origin, and producer Tobias Rochman, the pair deliver potent lyrics in Spanish exploring themes of power, identity, surveillance and environmental justice over a raw mix of rave synths, acid basslines, breakbeats and dembow rhythms – a fast and loose formula that feels keyed into the current global social-political milieu. Signed to PAN in 2019 for their debut full length album, ‘Movimiento Para Cambio’ (translation: ‘Movement For Change’), at Rewire 2020 Pelada challenges us not only to dance, but open our eyes with their galvanising live show.
