Olan Monk is a musician, performer, and writer from Conamara in rural Ireland. The “heavy pop” performer’s songs are otherworldly, adorned in creaky textures and brimming with emotionality. Monk’s bristly sound marries rumbling bodhrán drums and tin whistle howls with a shoegazer’s penchant for jangling distortion – all accompanied by the enthralling low timbre of Monk’s distinct voice. Their fuzzed-out textural songs traverse genres: from the droning tones of Irish traditional and the slow inflections of mumble rap, to the harrowed intimacy of lo-fi bedroom rock and the vibrant energy of grunge. Monk has released prolifically with c.a.n.v.a.s., the label they co-founded, and released a dubplate single with label AD 93 in 2022 entitled “Can’t Wait” – a hypothermic doomer-pop ballad. Following collaborations in 2024 with Moin – who perform at Rewire 2025, featuring guest vocals from Monk – and as part of experimental Irish supergroup Princ​€​ss, Monk performs music from their forthcoming album at Rewire 2025 in a new live set-up.
