Yallah Gudencia Mbidde, aka MC Yallah, has been rapping in the East African hip hop scene since late 1990s. Born and raised in Uganda, and coming from Kenyan descent, she burst into the international scene when audiences experienced her silky, tight flow and incredible live performances as part of the touring Nyege Nyege crew. Since 2018, she has collaborated with French producer Debmaster, whose high-intensity productions are a perfect fit for MC Yallah’s unbounded lyricism. Their debut together, Kubali (2019) on label Hakuna Kulala, proved the alchemical excellence of their collaboration. MC Yallah’s follow-up, the album Yallah Beibe (2023), was produced predominantly by Debmaster, but also featured production by Chrisman and Scotch Rolex. Rapping across English, Kiswahili, Luganda, and Luo tongues, MC Yallah’s impeccable vocals are grounded by Debmaster’s immense productions – combining trap, techno, and grime styles to envisage a futuristic and singular sound. Together, live, MC Yallah and Debmaster bring this collaboration to a new level. At Rewire they perform tracks from their new album, forthcoming on Nyege Nyege.
