Listening session: Studio for Immediate Spaces & Wastewaves

with Wastewaves and Studio for Immediate Spaces (Sandberg Instituut)

During this listening session, students from the Studio for Immediate Spaces at Sandberg Instituut, together with Wastewaves, present the outcome of a collaborative workshop exploring spatial research through sound. Situated between investigative research and artistic practice, the session approaches listening as a method to engage with space and its rhythms, infrastructures, and embedded stories.

Working with field recorders and archival material, participants approach their multidisciplinary practices through sound as a way to attune to the dynamics that shape an environment. By slowing down and listening attentively, audible traces emerge as entry points into understanding the spatial politics, power relations, and material realities that structure everyday life. Recording becomes both an investigative and archival act, tapping into the narratives carried by sites, infrastructures, and processes that often latently shape and impact our environment, whether they are economic, social, political, and ecological in nature.

Join Studio for Immediate Spaces and Wastewaves for a session that offers a glimpse into the participants’ investigative processes, reflecting on how sound can serve as a medium for exploration and open a space for shared listening.
