Following its title, Listening to the voices from the roof of the world, this listening session with Nischal Khadka will encourage participants to delve deeper into meditative states, traversing sound art and music from the Himalayan region and beyond: moving from traditional and contemporary cultivations of sound and music to the intermingling of voices, chants, and field recordings across decidedly liminal spaces.
Nischal Khadka is a sound artist, independent curator, cultural organiser, and a DJ from Nepal. In 2022, he established a nonprofit organisation Transhimalaya Foundation for Transdisciplinary Creativity (TFTC) with the aim of making new art accessible to the public in the Himalayan region. He also founded Weird Events in 2016 to promote indie, alternative, and electronic music in Nepal. Nischal has previously worked with Kathmandu Triennale 2077 as a head of multimedia and technology for the festival production. He has also curated a four-part radio episode The Transhimalayan Network in 2022 for SAVVY Contemporary, Berlin. At the moment Nischal is engaged in a curatorial project the songs of woes, we offer to the steeps which will be premiering in Europe later in 2024.
