Made up of members Eve Alpert, Kasra Kurt, and Matthew Anderegg, Kassie Krut is a band who creates dreamy synth-punk with a breakcore essence of experimentality, percussive aggression, and rave-readiness at its centre. Rich and vivid yet deceptively simple-seeming, their joyful self-produced and self-titled debut EP, Kassie Krut (2024), was released late last year on underground Brooklyn label Fire Talk. It is hyperactive and noisy, creating music whose gleeful abandon offers curative properties for weary and worn-out contemporary souls. Distorted sawtooth bass and swathing synths are cut into by Alpert’s angelic vocals; doused healthily in late-aughts sleaze, their music is as Ed Banger as it is head-banger, and as pensive as it is riotous. Their visual, collage-like songs fluctuate and move. Untethered to genre restrictions, Kassie Krut’s exciting and uncompromising experimental approach sheds any self-seriousness, giving up instead a raw and jubilant sound encrusted with hope.
