Some mystery swirls round the UK producer John T. Gast. With early affiliation to the enigmatic duo Hype Williams and a mounting stack of genre-eschewing releases for labels including Blackest Ever Black, Planet Mu, Trilogy tapes, Apron Records – as well his own 5 Gate Temple – John T. Gast has evolved into a prevalent name in the peripheral club scene, with a live show that deeper explores low end frequencies and galloping fxs. ‘5GTOUR’ and ‘KINGS X’ are the artist’s most current releases, the former featuring 12 cuts of experimental traveller electronics infused with overdrive and inflections of grime and the latter paying homage to a more uptempo steppa sound, shades of which the artist will bring to Rewire 2020’s club programme.
