JJJJJerome Ellis

JJJJJerome Ellis's debut album on NNA Tapes – The Clearing (2021), accompanied by a publication of the same name – was a moving and singular work touching on concepts of Blackness, stuttering, dysfluency, and ways of disrupting linear time. Anyone who was there to witness their performance at Rewire 2022 can attest to the intimate curiosity and generous sonic experimentations at the core of Ellis's practice. Ellis, as composer, producer, multi-instrumentalist, and writer, creates atmospheric soundscapes with saxophone, organ, hammered dulcimer, electronics, and their voice, as can also be heard on their stunning sophomore record Vesper Sparrow (2025). It is a continuation of their ongoing study into the intersections between music and sound, stuttering, and Blackness, through the lens of time. It is apt that at Rewire 2026, Ellis performs their experimental jazz, spoken word, and improvised musique concrète in the halls of Lutherse Kerk – a place where time has a way of standing still.
