Amos Childs, Alex Rendall, and Jasmine Butt are Jabu. Following releases with Blackest Ever Black and No Corner, the trio began releasing with their own label, do you have peace? – the home of their latest album, A Soft and Gatherable Star (2024). The group's foundations as part of Bristol's DIY scene can be heard in the warm, crumpled tones of their music – their smoky, dreamy sound harbours the authentic and intimate feel of low-fidelity recording yet is paradoxically pristine and large at the same time. Where Jabu diverge from conventional dream pop sounds is in their apparent mastery of lower frequencies – speaking to a meaningful influence of sound-system culture upon what they make, a dubby, tectonic bass murmurs beneath the surface of their lustrous guitar tones, warbly casiotones, and soft, reverb-drenched vocals. At Rewire, Jabu provide a special performance in Nieuwe Kerk, featuring producer and vocalist Birthmark, who appears on their album.
