FRANKIE & Kelman Duran

In a moment of pure happenstance in 2022, which led to a dynamic collaboration of immense character and scale, the Berlin-based composer, cellist, and vocalist Franziska Aigner, aka FRANKIE, met the Dominican-American producer Kelman Duran – a stalwart of LA's Afro-Caribbean club scene and known for his work on Beyoncé's Renaissance (2022). After this chance encounter in Berlin, the duo decided to delve into their mutual curiosity around each other's practices, culminating in their debut collaborative album McArthur (2026), made between Athens and LA. It is a mercurial album of bright sine waves and dark brooding bass, where FRANKIE's celestial pop vocals make way for ethereal interludes of haunting electronic soundscapes and mournful electroacoustic instrumentation. Informed by a shared commitment towards the disjointed and the residual, McArthur unfolds as a ghostly narrative where cryptic articulations of intimacy are pulled from the margins and thrown into an icy moon-soaked spotlight.
