Chunky Move is a contemporary dance company led by artistic director Antony Hamilton. He works with collaborators to experiment with materials and spaces, and uses choreography to occupy vivid imaginary worlds. Hamilton is preoccupied by the notion of an elemental, primordial body, situated in a construct of intersecting contemporary narratives, while being confronted by the dilemma of an unknowable future. Anticipating the unmissable cybernetic performance U>N>I>T>E>D – the third performance in his speculative future series – Hamilton will enter into a conversation with Giada Dalla Bontà about the possibilities and limitations of the choreographed body and machines, the role of spirituality and storytelling, and ways of embodying speculative futures.
How do tools and objects shape human movement, creating a "dialogue" with the surrounding environment? More broadly, in which ways do we physically extend into the world and connect with it? Also drawing from the collaboration with the Indonesian electronic duo Gabber Modus Operandi (GMO), these inquiries will lead to reflections on the relevance of mythological archetypes and ancient practices in both contemporary contexts and imagined futures.
Giada Dalla Bontà is an Italian researcher, curator, and writer based in Berlin and Copenhagen, exploring the intersections of sound, art, and politics through educational projects, participatory practices, and poetic interventions. A co-founding member of the Listening Biennial, she is also a PhD fellow at the KU Sound Studies Lab, focusing on experimental and unofficial practices in the EECCA region.
