Participants from the course Collaborative Music Creation (KC) will stage and perform a new and collaboratively produced piece, opening Rewire’s context programme at West Den Haag’s Alphabetum. The work combines forms of improvisation with composed elements: superimposed layers of sound mark transitions between unfolding melodic structures. The occurrence in time of these transitions, as well as the contrapuntal dialogue with the melodic lines, are determined by the improvised interaction of the performers.

Collaborative Music Creation is a practical course at The Royal Conservatoire in The Hague,  designed for students from every department who want to further develop and refine their creative skills. The main focus is on music creation through collaborative forms of music-making, without making a distinction between improvisation and other methods of composition. The course represents a crossroads between the KC’s departments, so as to make full use of the fertile ground formed by its various approaches to musical thinking, invention, and play.
