French artist Cécile Schott aka Colleen is a performer and musician who, over her decades-spanning career, has continually reinvented herself, holding a true experimental desire as the centre-piece of her practice. Her creative approach, which now focuses on analogue synthesis, has included complex samples and loops, instrumental processing, and even the application of dub production techniques to the baroque viola da gamba. Her sounds are dreamy, hypnagogic, and burnished by emotive subtlety. Colleen put forth eight releases into the world over the span of twenty years, from her debut in 2003, Everyone Alive Wants Answers – an ambient wonderland of looping samples, harps, and string – to 2023's Le jour et la nuit du réel (“The day and the night of reality”) – which brings a haunting serenity to its kaleidoscopic synthesised timbres. Colleen releases her ninth studio album in March via label Thrill Jockey; she performs the live premiere of Libres antes del final at Rewire 2026.
