Blawan's new album SickElixir (2025) should come with a corrosive materials warning; but like with all mysterious elixirs, doesn't half the fun come from the risk of consuming it? An alias of producer Jamie Roberts, Blawan has been a mainstay of the club scene for the last fifteen years. From his defining and way-paving early releases on Hinge Finger and Hessle Audio, to his prolific releases on his own imprint Ternesc, the producer is now signed with XL Recordings – who put out SickElixir. On this latest full-length, rough saw-tooth waves and grimey EBM synth lines are perforated by grizzly vocal samples spitting syllabic chants. His inventive percussive sampling and programming bring a chunky chopped-and-screwed sound to the dancefloor. Basked in a distinctly UK-inspired griminess, Blawan's not-quite-techno transmissions sound like lost signals from beyond this galaxy – arriving to our speaker cones as fuzzed-out club music full of clamouring beats and distortion-drenched bass. SickElixir is one of the most potent statements in club music recently: catch it live at Rewire 2026.
