Ben LaMar Gay

Performing on Saturday 4 April.

Aligned with Chicago’s avant-garde jazz scene, Ben LaMar Gay emerged in the 2000s singing and playing a variety of instruments, namely the cornet for venerated black music collective the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM). Recording under the moniker Juba Dance and collaborating with a wide range of artists, including hip hop producer Polyphonic the Verbose, jazz drummer Makaya McCraven and Theo Parrish, Gay’s music traverses jazz, hip hop, indie, experimental electronics and traditional Brazilian music, as heard on his critically acclaimed current album, ‘Downtown Castles Can Never Block The Sun’.
