European premiere

Arushi Jain is a modular synthesist, singer, producer, radio host, and engineer whose practice links centuries-old traditional Indian idoms with the sound, rhythm, and aesthetics of contemporary experimental electronic music. At Rewire Jain will be playing music from her newly released album Delight (2024), her second release on Leaving Records after the adored Under the Lilac Sky (2021). Delight traverses a rich range of different sounds, emotions, genres, and production styles, all basked in sweeping reverb and adorned with elegant ambient texture. Inspired by Raga Bageshri – a style of raga which depicts the feeling of awaiting a reunion with one’s beloved – the album delves into an emotional realm of in-betweens spanning the whole spectrum of care, desire, and love: “Raga Bageshri triggers within me immense ardour, juxtaposed with a poignant acknowledgment of suffering; for love as immense is often challenging to reciprocate,” Jain says. “We come into this world alone and we leave alone. Despite this knowledge, the human capacity for love is without reservation, which I find magnanimous.”
