Melbourne musicians Kate Durman, Morgan Wright, and Lachlan McGeehan are each established electronic producers in their own right, but together, as Acopia, they swap their sequencers for the time-tested combination of guitar, bass, and vocals. Their music hovers around jangle pop sounds – with dreamy lustre and catchy melodies – while also taking forays into breaks-laden trip hop and electronic pop – with reverberating arpeggios, cruising drum machines, and twinkling synthesis. Acopia's songs burst with the sincere melancholic hope of early My Bloody Valentine and the joyful yet wise poppiness of Prefab Sprout, shrouded beneath a veil of shoegazy texture and electronic rhythms. Acopia reach a new stage of evolution in their third and latest album, Blush Response (2025). Like blood rushing to one's cheeks, their hopeful songs bring a lush feeling of colour and brightness amid the bittersweet confusion of contemporary times.
