Beginning as a loosely knit collection of collaborators – gathered by its founding members, experimental composer and performance artist Billy Bultheel and artist, filmmaker, and musician Alexander Iezzi – 33 has slowly morphed into a more fixed form. Its former collaborators multi-instrumentalist Cem Dukkha and vocalist and clarinet player Ivan Cheng have now joined the group as full-time members. With their experimental pop debut 33–69 (2022), 33 generated an album of otherworldly electronics and industrial adorned by baroque voices. Their follow-up, Tripolar (2026) on Haunter Records, is amassed from hours of edited-down improvisations from sessions with a wide variety of instruments: percussions, guitars, strings, piano, hurdy gurdy, synthesizers, and CD-Js. Developed in collaboration with FLUXGEIST, their live performances – as anyone who witnessed them at Rewire 2023 can attest to – borrow from performance art and installation to engage audiences in a multisensory experience that rams through conventional concert expectations, creating a fitting spectacle for their larger-than-life music. 33 return to Rewire to present the world premiere of their new live show.
